Low Course Use Instructions
Monday-Thursday Session - Your group should have a two hour session schedule. You should be able to complete 5 of the low course activities in two hours. Divide your group evenly to rotate through the courses you have chosen to do with a maximum of 12 youth at each activity. Each course takes about 24 minutes including the time to rotate to the next activity. You have approximately 17 minutes to give instructions and complete the activity and 5 minutes to reflect. Six to eight adult youth leaders should help with this activity depending on the activities you choose to do.
Thursday-Saturday Session - Your group should have a one hour session schedule. You should be able to complete 3 of the low course activities in one hour. Divide your group evenly to rotate through the courses you have chosen to do with a maximum of 10 youth at each activity. Each course takes about 20 minutes including the time to rotate to the next activity. You have approximately 13 minutes to give instructions and complete the activity and 5 minutes to reflect. Four to six adult youth leaders should help with this activity depending on the activities you choose to do.
These leader numbers include a rover. The rover holds up a sign and goes to each activity to let the leaders know when it's time to start the reflection and when it's time to rotate to the next activity.
Life Line & The Wall - Will need 2 adult leaders to run these activities. All other activities need 1 adult youth leader at each activity.
If wards or small stakes don't have enough adult youth leaders to lead all 3 or 5 activities, they can prepare 1 or more leaders to lead 2 activities and rotate between those activities.
There are instructions in a plastic box attached to a numbered post at each low course. If you use these please return them to the box.
Blind Folds & Rover Signs: Blind tag and Lifeline are done wearing blind folds. Please return all blind folds & rover signs at the end of your activity.
We work to keep the challenge course clean and free of garbage. Please leave them this way. Pack in, pack out!
We hope you have a fun, safe, spiritual experience with your group as you enjoy this time together.
Low Course Activity Safety
The following is a list of ideas to help the Leader in creating this physically and spiritually safe environment:
Safety is top priority. If game is not safe, STOP, and find a safer way.
Study and prepare questions for the activities. PRAY FOR THE SPIRIT to guide and inspire you.
Clear game area of debris, rocks, sticks, or anything harmful.
Spotting is essential and should always be used per the training on each activity.
Leaders wear “magic boots” and are “guardian angels.” They are not harmed by acid, sharks, snakes, fire, high and dangerous places, etc. Spotters also wear “magic boots” and are “guardian angels”. Find a way for everyone in the group to participate. There is something for everyone. No one wants to be left behind.
Other ‘handicaps’ for those who fall off or make mistakes are muting, losing the use of a limb, or being blind. If the same person is receiving the handicaps, ask another participant if they will take it.
